What Is a Thrust Ratio - And Why It Matters

A caulking gun thrust ratio refers to the mechanical advantage provided by the gun when the trigger is squeezed to dispense caulk or sealant.

It is a measurement by the force multiplication achieved by the tool, allowing more pressure to be exerted on the caulk cartridge than applied to the trigger.

For example, on an 18:1 thrust ratio caulking gun, applying 1 pound of force to the trigger results in 18 pounds of force being applied to the caulk. This mechanical advantage makes it easier to dispense thicker or more viscous caulking materials.
